Leonard Chigas, 81, of Helmetta, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.
Leonard was born and raised in Perth Amboy NJ. He married his wife Catherine in 1964 and had 2 children he was amazingly proud of. He raised his family in Jackson Township, NJ before moving to Lawrenceville, Georgia. He enjoyed the southern hospitality he experienced during the 24 years he lived there. He worked as a salesman for Furniture Services Company of Conyers, Georgia. He was an active, third-degree Knight of Columbus with the St. Marguerite D’Youville Council Lawrenceville Georgia. Leonard (or Pop Pop, as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren), loved his family dearly. Although he moved to Georgia in 1999, he always kept in touch by writing postcards and letters to those he did not get to see often. He enjoyed going for walks. He would journal all of his daily activities to share with those he held dear. He loved the many dogs he got the privilege of caring for throughout the years of his life. He was a big fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team. As described by many, Leonard was the nicest guy you would ever want to know.
Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Joanna and, a sister, Karen Casper. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Catherine Chigas; his children, Kevin Chigas (Rita) and Laurie Chigas; a brother, Karl Chigas (Karen); his grandchildren, Kyle and Kaitlyn Chigas, and; many nieces and nephews.
